Even if you’ve visited Mount Vernon before, you may never have experienced as it will be during the park’s Fall Wine Festival and Sunset Tour event. Scheduled for October 11 and 12, not far from your Capitol Hill apartment, the wine festival and sunset tours combine to give visitors a magical sense of the buzzing estate as it might have been when George Washington lived here.
Twenty Virginia wineries will be on site pouring samples of their best vintages, while living history actors walk you through the mansion house and its wine cellar, giving particular attention to Washington’s own winemaking endeavors on the property. Attendees can spread a blanket on the lawn to enjoy the sunset while sipping a glass of wine and nibbling on a cheese and fruit platter, or you can choose a full sit-down culinary experience at the estate’s on-site restaurant. Tickets (not including food) range from $42-$52, and since space is limited, it’s a good idea to reserve yours on the website ahead of time.
