You’ll be transported to the banks of the Thames River when you step inside of the Folger Theatre this fall. Set designer Andrew Cohen has transformed it into a convincing likeness of Shakespeare’s historic Globe Theatre in London, which is fitting, given that you can currently see the Bard’s King John at the Folger Theatre.
Perhaps you haven’t heard of King John, but don’t let that stop you from snagging a ticket. Like all of Shakespeare’s works, this play showcases sharp observations about the climate of his time, and they happen to apply to today, as well. The story follows the saga of King John, a monarch who’s constantly being bested by his brother and ignored by his court and fellow leaders alike. Watch him struggle to maintain power on the stage at the Folger Theatre. King John is playing now through December 2nd, and tickets start at $42.
