When TAKODA Restaurant opened its doors two months ago, the DC whiskey scene got just a little bit cooler. TAKODA boasts an extensive list of whiskeys and other top-shelf spirits. If you want to sample some of the 70-plus varieties, come to TAKODA on Wednesday nights. A select collection of the whiskeys is offered for half-off the normal price. This is in addition to the daily happy hour specials available from 5 to 7 p.m.
Sip your whiskey in the rooftop beer garden, which is open year-round thanks to retractable windows and a specially engineered canopy overhead. Or sit down in the dining room and complement your whiskey with some starters from the dinner menu, such as five-cheese mac and cheese, lamb sliders with tzatziki sauce, and sun-dried tomato hummus with veggies. The move on to the main course, perhaps the brisket-and-short-rib Takoda burger, the fried chicken and waffle, or the blackened salmon.
